The Shape of Water

When I started painting professionally (making art with the intention of selling it), I painted fish. I painted fish and other sea creatures almost exclusively. I even overheard people refer to me as the Fish Lady. I thought it was funny, but also true. I really don’t know if there is some hidden meaning for my desire to paint so many creatures of water. I know that I love watching them swim, I love the shimmer of their bodies and the ripple of water as they swim.

I’ve always had a very strong affinity for animals- I often feel more comfortable around them than around people. That could explain some of it. I also became a decent swimmer at a young age and swam often. Maybe I was a sea creature in a past life ;)

I continue to create paintings centered around sea creatures- sometimes when I’ve made more of other types of art, old clients remark that I’ve stopped making fish art. Not true. I’m continually going back to my first subject, even if I take random breaks here and their. Do not worry!
